Before Cobb and Mal, it had been Arthur and Mal. But he was too unstable—too obsessive—too much for her so she left and started a relationship with Arthur’s business partner, Dom Cobb. Arthur took the break-up in stride and even said that they were a better match. But under his cool and calm exterior, he was angry—pissed beyond hell and he promised himself he’d get her back.

Except it was too late by the time he started enacting his plan. Cobb and Mal had come back from limbo and she killed herself.

Cobb came to him and asked for his help. Reluctantly, he agreed, hoping that in the sometime future, he’d get his revenge against him.

But when Cobb got his kids back, Arthur’s anger had waned.
